Merck & Co Reports 67% Jump in Q1 Profit (MRK, NEM, SPG, TOT, VFC, VTR)
Merck & Co Inc (NYSE:MRK) went down 0.13% to $38.42 after the Company released first quarter results. The profit was $1.74 billion or 56 cents per share compared to $1.04 billion or 34 cents per share in the prior year period. Sales increased 1% to $11.73 billion. The increase in profit was due to lower costs.
Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE:NEM) surged up 1.24% to $48.28 after the Company announced first quarter results. Net income was $490 million or $0.97 per share compared to $514 million or $1.03 per share in the prior year quarter. Sales were $2.68 billion versus $2.47 billion in the prior year period.
Simon Property Group Inc (NYSE:SPG) increased 1.89% to $155.11. The Company posted first quarter FFO of $1.82, beating the analyst estimate of $1.68. Revenue for the quarter was $1.12 billion versus the consensus estimate of $1.05 billion. The Company expects FFO of $7.50-$7.60 for fiscal year 2012.
TOTAL S.A. (ADR) (NYSE:TOT) went up 0.21% to $48.47 after the Company announced first quarter results. Net income was 3.66 billion euro compared to 3.95 billion euros in the prior year period. Sales were 51.17 billion euros compared to 46.03 billion euros in the previous year period. The board has decided to pay an interim 2012 dividend of 0.57 euros per share on September 27, 2012.
V.F. Corporation (NYSE:VFC) augmented 0.60% to $154.92 following the Company declared first quarter results. Revenues increased 31% to $2,556 million. Net income was $219 million compared to $201 million in the same period last year. Adjusted earnings per share increased 7% to $1.94 per share. Gross margin was 45.7% compared to 47.2% from the prior year quarter.
Ventas Inc (NYSE:VTR) went up 0.58% to $59.05 after the Company announced first quarter results. Funds From Operations were $263.9 million compared to $121.0 million in the same period of 2011. The net income was $90.6 million or 31 cents per share compared to $49 million or 30 cents per share in the prior year period. Revenue was $573.7 million from $268.4 million.
